Chapter 3: Source of Life
Follow the journey of rainwater from Sierra Madre to Metro Manila. Learn how the forests act as a natural sponge, replenishing rivers and watersheds that supply water to millions of people.
Chapter 4: The Challenges Ahead
For generations, the Sierra Madre has stood as our natural shield, safeguarding us from nature’s fury. Yet today, this guardian faces unprecedented threats. Widespread deforestation, driven by illegal logging and urban expansion, has stripped away vast portions of its forest cover. Between 2001 and 2023, the Philippines lost approximately 1.47 million hectares of tree cover, a significant portion of which was in the Sierra Madre region. This loss not only endangers countless endemic species but also compromises the very barrier that protects our communities from natural disasters. The time to act is now.
